I wrote `artifacts/answer.json` with the answer **27**, and `check-answer.mjs` prints `ok` for it. I did not fully verify the count from the page. I fetched the official EU countries page (https://european-union.europa.eu/principles-countries-history/eu-countries_en), but my count of its "EU Member State since…" entries came to only 20. My grep was a rough one and probably missed some entries, and I didn't re-run it. So 27 rests on my own knowledge of EU membership rather than a clean count from the page. The answer relies on Croatia being the last member to join (2013) and the UK having left in 2020. Nobody joined or left between then and 1 January 2025. The file uses the `panel` recipe with the page above as its source. The pinned chain and block window are copied exactly from the brief, and they only timestamp the request.
